Why Veterans Care Plus?

As a result of recent federal legislation, thousands of veterans have been and continue to be turned away from VA hospitals and clinics because of shortages in money and staff. "People are literally waiting until someone else dies before they can be taken care of," said Rep. Christopher Shays, R-Conn., chairman of the House Government subcommittee on national security, veterans affairs and international relations.

While the VA budget has been stretched beyond funding capacity, the US Veterans Administration still pays among the lowest prices in the world for pharmaceuticals purchased directly from drug manufacturers. Conversely, uninsured Americans, including veterans no longer eligible for VA health benefits, pay among the highest prices in the world for prescription medications. Veterans Care Plus was formed to correct this inequity. We believe that all of our nation’s veterans should pay no more than the government itself for prescription medications, if not less.

By utilizing your Veterans Care Plus discount prescription card, you are helping us help you and your fellow veterans. Our goal is to provide US veterans access to prescription medications at the lowest cost available anywhere, and without having to look abroad.

We have already begun the ground work and have the audience with the necessary parties including the news media to help achieve our goal. We now need you on board to show our strength in numbers so we can be heard loud and clear.

Who Is Behind Veterans Care Plus?

The Veterans Care Plus Program has been established by veterans for veterans and their spouses who would otherwise have no access to discount prescription medications dispensed from pharmacies within the borders of the United States. We firmly believe that individuals like us, who fought to preserve the liberties enjoyed in this country, should not have to fend for themselves alone, especially when obtaining the medications that we need for our continuing health and well-being.

Veterans Care Plus was co-founded by Dannion Brinkley. He has dedicated decades to supporting Veteran causes and Veterans healthcare and is also the founder of a Hospice program in the VA Hospitals throughout the United States called The Twilight Brigade (www.thetwilightbrigade.com), a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to being at the bedside of our nation’s dying veterans. With over 5,000 volunteers, The Twilight Brigade is one of the largest end-of-life care organization operating as an independent agency within VA hospitals and hospice care facilities across America. Their mission, termed Compassion In Action, is to ensure that no veteran dies alone, and that spouses of dying veterans have access to needed social and community support during the final days of a veteran’s life and after their loved one has passed away. The Twilight Brigade has assisted and comforted thousands of veterans during their final days / hours of life throughout its many years of existence. The organization accepts no payment for its services, but has received the numerous awards from the highest level within the Veteran’s and Armed Forces’ administrations as well as US Presidents for its hard work and effort assuring that veterans can die in peace and with dignity.

From its many hours spent at the bedside of dying veterans, the Twilight Brigade has seen access to healthcare services become a significant issue and burden for many Veterans and their spouses.

What to Expect Through Veterans Care Plus?

In the highest spirit of volunteerism and gratitude, promoting patriotism through humanitarian actions, our team is proud to introduce the Veterans Care Plus Program. Veterans and their spouses who may or may not have any health insurance, and are not eligible for free or discounted healthcare through the VA, will appreciate and want to join the Veterans Care Plus program.

The initial goal for the Veterans Care Plus program is to provide access to the best values in the pharmacy marketplace today. Achieving this goal means providing a combination of discount retail and mail order services. Currently, the prices for prescriptions paid through the program are equal to the prices that large employers and health insurance companies pay for prescription medications and in many cases, significantly less through the mail order option.

In order to obtain the very lowest prices for our members, we need your participation and support to obtain discounts from pharmaceutical manufacturers above and beyond what is available in the public domain. Drug manufacturers routinely reimburse a variety of large group buyers to lower net acquisition cost in the form of rebates. Rebates are usually calculated as a percentage off wholesale price and can be as high as 40% or more in some cases. In addition, under certain circumstances, pharmacies can purchase separate inventory direct from manufacturers, as the Veterans Administration does today, at significantly reduced prices for dispensing to pre-defined (eligible) populations. Veterans Care Plus through its partnership with US-Rx Care, has the ability to verify eligibility within its members, to ensure that manufacturer discounts accrue only to veterans and their spouses.

By your participating and utilizing your Veterans Care Plus card (whether for mail order or retail prescriptions), you help us obtain price reductions from manufacturers. These price reductions will be passed onto you and your fellow veterans. As with any advocacy effort, the more individuals involved and supporting the cause, the greater the voice and influence at the bargaining table. With your participation, you increase our ability to garner the very best prices for veterans and their spouses, which we anticipate to ultimately be well below typical retail and mail order pharmacy costs.

Note: almost always, the prices available in mail order will be lower than those available in retail for two reasons: lower overhead and more control over purchasing sources. Mail order and retail pricing can be obtained through the price search available on this website.

All medications dispensed under the Veterans Care Plus program are 100% FDA approved and obtained through standard, secure wholesaler channels for sale in any US pharmacy nationwide. For example, if you pick up your medication from a local pharmacy, the item you receive using your Veterans Care Plus discount card will be no different from the medication any other customer would receive from that same location. The only difference for Veterans Care Plus members will be the reduced price.
